Oriental Bay (after Derain)

I like Andre Derain’s simple colours and contrasts – this is an adaption of one of his several paintings of the London Embankment applied to Oriental Bay, the “Wellington Riviera” as estate agents would have it. I like this one, but no-one else seems to – perhaps you need to like Derain.
I had a theory for some time that some of the Fauves were colour blind – perhaps not, but it worked as motivation.
