I started this in 2003. Its acrylic about 36’x36″. It was based on a view of the Southern Alps in my rear vision mirror when driving from Queenstown to Christchurch. Much later, I’ve seen exactly this image in Air New Zealand’s inflight magazine.
Ironically, in spite of supposedly having 20% of the risk that Wellington has, Canterbury has had 2 crippling and thousands of minor earthquakes since 2011. That all seemed unlikely nonsense when I did this painting.
At some point I will modify the greens (after 10 years reflection so far – no hurry!). Plus another 3 of the same view in acrylics and 2 in oils.
