A minor landmark in Wellington, both for its fastfood history in a student area and its location on the top T of alternative Cuba Street. Squeezed into 1/2 width-ways to fit the panel and with a renovated facade (it is in very poor repair at present, clearly not an issue in the late-night fried chicken market).
An unremarkable useage history it seems, although generations of chickens might disagree. Not sure I’d fancy living above a greasy spoon all night cafe (shout out to Amanda who lived next door..).
According to Heritage NZ:”290 Cuba Street is a good representative example of a 1900s timber shop/dwelling. This building has architectural value due to the retention of original materials and most of the façade/shop front”.
Oils on panel 60x30cm. Sold at Mana Arts Trail 2019
Wonderful painting… I love the chicken sign.
